CCSA Names John Roman as Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs

SAINT JOHN (NB), May 1, 2024 — The Canadian Communication Systems Alliance (CCSA), representing 100 independent communications companies providing bundled internet, TV & telephone services to hundreds of thousands of residents and businesses across Canada, is pleased to announce John Roman as its newly appointed Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs. With the broadcasting and telecommunications landscape rapidly evolving and regulatory complexities increasing, Roman’s appointment reflects CCSA’s commitment to maximizing these opportunities and advancing its advocacy efforts on behalf of member companies nationwide.

With more than 14 years of dedicated experience in policy, regulation, and consulting within the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors, Roman’s extensive track record of crafting regulatory submissions, supporting Governor in Council (GIC) requests, and creating and delivering presentations for appearances at CRTC and Senate Committee hearings underscores his invaluable expertise in understanding and achieving results in the regulatory field. His involvement with licensing, mergers, pricing models, and service frameworks demonstrates his deep understanding of the regulatory complexities facing the industry. Additionally, Roman’s experience as an intervener and applicant in numerous regulatory and governmental hearings since 2014 brings firsthand insights and advocacy skills that will directly benefit the CCSA Membership.

“We are thrilled to welcome John to the CCSA team. His deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and industry dynamics enables us to continue to navigate complex issues in an evolving sector and effectively support and advocate for our members,” said Sheri Somerville, CEO of the CCSA.

Prior to joining CCSA, Roman was founder and principal of JPR Consulting providing client counsel and support in the areas of regulatory proceedings, industry and policy direction and development. He has also served as Director of Research & Contracts for the Canadian Broadcasting Museum Foundation, as a Senior Policy Analyst for Kealy Wilkinson Enterprises Inc., and began his career as a Trader on the NYSE with Swift Trade.

“I’m excited to embark on this journey with the CCSA,” said Roman. “I am truly passionate about our broadcasting and telecommunications sectors. I’m driven by the desire to make a positive impact, and eager for this opportunity to contribute to members' success.”
